Van Locks
Why should you choose additional van security locks?
Each year, thousands of vans are targeted by opportunistic or professional thieves, hoping to either steal your van or the tools and equipment that are essential for your livelihood. Local businesses and self-employed persons who use their vans on a daily basis unfortunately find themselves the victims of these types of thieves all too often in the UK.
As a van owner you can almost expect that an attempt will be made at some time to either steal your van or break into it. UK crime statistics show that the Kent police recorded 7,968 vehicle crimes between October 2020 and September 2021. That is why it is essential to get the best protection available for your vehicle.
Following thefts of vans earlier this year, the Kent District Commander Inspector sent a warning to van owners to make sure that their vehicles were secure.
Securing your investment
When you spend thousands of pounds on a new van you would hope that it would be secure against all but the most determined theft attempts. However, unfortunately, the types of locks that are fitted, even in the latest vans, can be broken into in mere seconds by the most inexperienced criminal.
OE (Original Equipment), which are the standard locks fitted by the manufacturer, simply can’t withstand the kinds of attacks they are subjected to if a thief is determined to break into your van. Ultimately your new van and possibly even your expensive goods or tools are at the mercy of the thieves.
Although many of our customers have already learned from past experience, the importance of ensuring their van is secured beyond just OE locking mechanisms, we’ve found that many new van owners unfortunately don’t protect their vehicles from the outset. Most of our customers find that the installation of an additional lock can be enough of a deterrent to put off opportunistic thieves looking for a quick and easy target.

Which key can be used with this lock?
T-series key
This is a robust, double sided, dimple cut key that doesn’t compromise on anything. Resistant to rust and snapping, the T-series key is made entirely from nickel silver. Built for high frequency everyday use. For this reason we fit all slamlocks and Statement locks as standard on a T-series key and we recommend this key to customers who know they will likely use their deadlocks very frequently. T-series keys are available for deadlocks, slamlocks, Statement lock and Replock applications.
What are Statement locks?
Statement locks are surface mounted locks that fit across the two rear doors, or to the side door and side panel of your van, bracing them together when the lock is engaged. They are deadlocking and require an additional key to operate them.

As the Statement lock is relatively lightweight (not compromising on its durability) it doesn’t take up much surface area; so it can be installed in several positions. This gives more flexibility for installation which is something our customers appreciate. We always advise our customers that the installation of Statement locks should be located in the most effective place. This is usually high on the van doors to protect against door peeling/bending. We advise this to further protect against the kind of break-in attempts where leverage is used in an attempt to pry or force the lock, using the door as leverage.
Please get in touch and let us know your van make and model so that we can help you to get the most effective protection for your needs.
High quality Statement locks
All of the locking cylinders that we supply and install are plated with satin nickel. This means that not only are they extremely durable and robust, but that they will also continue to look good in the future. When we do an installation we treat all exposed metal with Waxoyl and silicone to further ensure that there will be no deterioration, and to prevent any formation of rust.
Statement locks as an additional level of security
Many of our customers opt to protect their van with two additional locking mechanisms (excluding OE locks). For example, a van door can be fitted with both a Statement lock at the top and a slamlock or deadlock lower down the door. Not only would this combination make the vehicle very difficult to breach in an attack, but having more than one lock also acts as a deterrent to thieves who are just looking for an easy target.
Please get in touch if you’d like to protect your van with more than one type of lock.
Where can Statement locks be installed on my van
We always recommend that Statement locks should be fitted high on the van door, where possible. This is to give you the added protection against door peeling/bending attacks. It can also make brute force attacks much harder. These are attacks where the perpetrator uses a leveraging object, such as a crowbar, in an attempt to pry the lock away from the van door to give access to the van. Fitting the lock in a high position on the van door makes it much more difficult for a thief to reach a point where the crowbar would be able to exert any meaningful leveraging force onto the lock. If a ladder were to be used to gain this leverage, this would obviously make the attempted break-in much harder and more visible, and could deter all but the most determined criminals.
If you have any doubts or questions about having a Statement lock installed on your van please contact us for advice. Not every van is able to accomodate a high door installation, generally because of the shape of their doors or if it is glazed. We have fitted Statement locks to a wide range of van makes and models, but since installation is bespoke to your van, please contact us for further installation information.
