In the UK between 2016 and 2019 over 43,000 vans were stolen – that’s over 30 vans per day – causing both loss and inconvenience to their owners. According to the Commercial Fleet website, the DVLA recorded that in 2020 the most frequently stolen van was the Mercedes- Benz Sprinter 313 CDI followed by the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 314 CDI and the Ford Transit 350. Of these vans, on average, less than one in five were recovered.

Ultimate locks
The ultimate locks fit across the two rear doors of your van, bolting them together and providing security which is independent of the van manufacturers’ lock. The ultimate lock has proved itself in attack tests against all types of implements. They can be provided as slam locks or deadlocks.

Van deadlocks
Deadlocks are locks which usually fit into the door and throw a bolt or hook into a receiving point in the door post or frame of the van, to create an extra locking point for the door. These locks can remain unlocked, allowing the operator to use the manufacturer’s locks as normal, until additional security is needed.

Slamlocks
Slam locks are used when a customer wants their van to lock automatically when the door is closed, without the use of a key. This type of locking system is ideal for people in a hurry. Whether it’s for a courier company, or a company who wants to make sure their employees are locking their vans, these are a great solution.

- Can be upgraded with a Slam Handle to maximise security and protect against multiple attack types

Statement locks
Unlike other locks, statement locks are mounted externally on doors and provide both a visual deterrent and an additional layer of security to your van. It can also be fitted in a high door (anti-door peel/bending) position. The other benefits are that it can be keyed alike with other products like the deadlocks, slamlocks and Replock, unlike the Ultimate lock which is on a different style of key. Please note, Statement locks are not available as slamlocks.

Additional locks combat the rise in relay thefts. Relay theft allows the van to be opened electronically without having the original key. The security our locks offer provides an additional, unexpected, problem for thieves to try to overcome.

The Statement lock and the Ultimate lock are the most secure, followed by the deadlock. But most customers prefer the deadlocks as they are mostly fitted internally on the door, or in the edge of the door, whereas the Statement and Ultimate lock are bolted to the outside of the van, which most customers do not want.
Slam handles are next, followed by the slamlock.
These are all the additional locks, whereas the other products are shielding (protecting the manufacturers existing lock mechanisms, handles, cables and central locking).
Most customers will have deadlocks, then if they want more security they have some of the shielding options.
No it’s not necessary, as we provide a mobile fitting service and can be at your place of work or home promptly for your convenience.
All locks can be bypassed, given enough time. But because of the design of deadlocks, especially hook locking deadlocks, it is very difficult to force the lock in comparison to standard manufacturers’ locks. It is more likely that the metalwork will give way before the deadlock does.

Some insurance companies recognise the benefits of having deadlocks fitted, but not all.

Generally yes you do have a choice. There are several types of key (depending upon your van lock). We will provide you with these keys upon installation of your new van lock. We recommend that the driver keeps a spare key on their person, especially if you have chosen to go with a slamlock. This is just in case you accidentally lock yourself out.
We will do a full bodywork inspection before we fit a deadlock to your van and again after we have fitted your deadlock. Our locksmiths take pride in the quality of service they provide and will leave your van in the condition it was before the locks were fitted.
In most cases, a hole is cut into the edge of the door for the lockcase (deadlock) to be fitted into, then another hole on the outside of the door for the cylinder to go into. The bare metal is then treated with Waxoyl before the lock is secured with stainless steel rivets.

Slamlocks are a better security defence for your vehicle against opportunist thieves because they lock your van as soon as the door has been shut, whereas van deadlocks remain open until you decide you want to lock the vehicle. The slamlock may be a more convenient option for delivery drivers and couriers who are frequently in and out of the van, but deadlocks are the most secure option as they provide an additional locking point to the door, and when fitted in a high door position they protect the doors from being bent down
